Hand Hygiene Compliance System

The COVID-19 pandemic reminded us of the importance of regularly washing and sanitizing our hands. Even in the best of times, we pay special attention to cleaning our hands because we touch so many objects every day. Nowhere is the emphasis on hand hygiene more important than inside hospitals. The question is, how can hospitals be sure that their employees are keeping their hands as clean as possible?

One of E-Switch’s customers is a Minnesota-based technology company. For almost a century, the company has been helping customers in a variety of industries improve their safety, cleanliness, and efficiency. The company has introduced a hand hygiene compliance system for healthcare workers at hospitals.

The system is based on a monitoring zone set up around patients’ beds. Healthcare workers wear badges that glow green when they enter this zone to verify that they used the designated hand sanitizing station beforehand. If a worker has not sanitized their hands, the badge glows red and beeps. Information from this system is wirelessly transmitted to a dashboard showing hand hygiene compliance data.

As part of this hand hygiene compliance system, the company needed a reliable subminiature snap action switch. This is where E-Switch’s SS series comes in. As a snap action switch, the SS series is designed to quickly transfer contacts from one position to another. The SS series is a right-angle switch with a long mechanical life of up to one million cycles. It is a great fit for applications including appliances, timing controls, vending machines, gaming devices, industrial controls, and power tools.
